Addressing Sexual Abuse In Daycare Centers

Last updated on March 11, 2026

Sexual abuse is an unfortunate reality in daycare settings, and it demands vigilant attention. Victims and parents must understand their legal options. Sexual abuse can dramatically impact a child’s development and their physical and emotional well-being.

I am attorney Konrad Kircher of Kircher Law, LLC. I have more than three decades of experience advocating for those in Ohio victimized by sexual misconduct and am not afraid to be aggressive when going against perpetrators of abuse. At the same time, I treat those I serve with respect and understanding. Call for a free consultation.

Indicators Of Daycare Abuse

When a child experiences any type of sexual abuse or assault in a daycare center, there may be a wide variety of potential indicators, such as:

  • Mood swings or emotional changes
  • Altered behavioral patterns
  • Physical injuries and signs, such as bruising or lacerations

Children are often unable to communicate what happened to them, but parents may notice the effects, such as becoming fearful or withdrawn or reacting in unusual ways around certain daycare workers.

Mandatory Reporting Laws

One important thing to note is that Ohio law stipulates that daycare providers are mandatory reporters when they suspect that child abuse or neglect is occurring. This means they must make a report with the child’s name, age and injuries.

These reports can be beneficial during an ongoing investigation or serve as sufficient cause to initiate a formal investigation. Since reporting child abuse is generally confidential, someone making a report does not have to be worried about being held liable themselves.

When allegations are made against a daycare center, they have an obligation to inform the public of the accusation and must create safeguards designed to protect children.
